Residents of Tudun Biri took matters into their own hands and dragged the Federal Government of Nigeria to court over the airstrike that took the lives of over 90 villagers. The Federal Government of Nigeria has yet to respond to this suit.

Tudun Biri villagers in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State have decided to drag the Nigerian Government to court.

The villagers are asking for the sum of N33 billion as compensation following the latest airstrikes by the Nigerian Army that saw over 100 persons dead.

Mukhtar Usman Esq., the counsel to the villagers had filed the suit on December 8 at a Federal High Court in Kaduna.

In addition to their demands, the villagers are asking for an apology to be publicised in at least three national newspapers.

According to them, the suit would be to enforce the fundamental human rights to the life of the survivors of the ugly incident.

One of the reliefs sought for was “a declaration that the act of striking dead, the deceased victims, by way of air attack while they where marking the Islamic Maulud at their village, Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area on December 3 by the personnel under the command amounted to a violation of the deceased victims’ fundamental rights to life as was written in Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As at the time of making this report, on December 13, a date has yet to be fixed for the hearing of the suit.
