Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been cleared to play in their next two Premier League games after a red card against Tottenham Hotspur was overturned. Manchester United had appealed against the decision and were successful, with Fernandes now free to play against Aston Villa this weekend.
The Portugal midfielder was red-carded in the 42nd minute of United’s 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford for a high challenge on Tottenham’s James Maddison. His dismissal originally saw him miss United’s next three fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham United.
However, Manchester United announced on Tuesday that Fernandes would not be suspended, after appealing the matter. “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal,” the club said in a statement.
United are 13th in the Premier League on seven points from six matches as they try to get back on their feet after a slow start to the season. It is, therefore, a big boost that Fernandes will be available as they go away to Aston Villa this Sunday.
