The Kano State Government has announced Monday, July 8 as a public holiday in celebration of the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year 1446 AH which starts on Sunday.
This announcement was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye on Friday.

The statement also revealed how Governor Yusuf Abba had encouraged its citizens to use the holiday to reflect on the past year and engage in activities that would be beneficial to all “in these difficult and trying times.”
“The state government on its part will continue to implement and initiate policies and programmes that will empower citizens to be self-dependent,” the statement partly read.
Abba has also called on the Muslim community to intensify prayers for continuous peace and progress in the state and the country at large, while also highlighting the importance of collective effort and prayer in achieving the state’s goals.
Finally, he expressed optimism that with the prayers and support of the residents, his governance will turn around the fortunes of the state and return it to be one of the most economically thriving states among its peers in the country.
