Nigeria is currently in talks with Libya about constructing a regional gas pipeline that will link the two countries. Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of Petroleum (Gas), held talks with Libya’s Minister of Oil, Dr. Khalifa AbduAlsadik, last week at the Gastech Exhibition and Conference 2024 in Houston, USA.
The pipeline would start from Nigeria and pass through Libya, enhancing energy partnership between the two nations,” Ekpo stated. “This strategic meeting aims to strengthen the energy partnership between Nigeria and Libya.”
Discussion on constructing a regional pipeline from Nigeria to Libya have been ongoing, as Libya had earlier suggested the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline. The West African country, blessed with abundant reserves, is shifting from oil to gas. This shift allows Nigeria to transition to gas, considering its large reserves.
President Tinubu has given momentum to this change through signing executive orders, as well as commissioning three gas plants in Delta and Imo states.
