Rev. Canon Olowolagba, Anglican bishop, his wife, and children have been freed after days in kidnappers’ den. The family was kidnapped along the Iboropa Road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State while on their way through the state.
Their release on Saturday followed the ransom of ₦15 million, from ₦75 million earlier demanded by the kidnappers. It was a collective contribution by the family, church, and other associations that secured their freedom.
The family had been kidnapped while traveling from Ipesi through Isua Akoko. Members of the local security outfit, Amotekun operatives, and hunters mounted a search for them after their disappearance was reported.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of Amotekun, confirmed their release but refused to give further details about the operation. The bishop and his family are safe now, but the incident has left residents in fear of increasing insecurity on Ondo roads.
