Nigeria has officially sought South Africa’s support in joining the G20, BRICS, and the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB). This request was made by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, during the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Nigeria wants to join these groups because it has important goals, like taking leadership roles in discussions during South Africa’s G20 presidency. Nigeria is also focused on promoting peace and stability in Africa, especially in Sudan.

South Africa, which took over the leadership of the G20 on December 1, has agreed to Nigeria’s requests and promised to make sure Africa’s voice is heard during its time as G20 president. Dr. Roland Lamola, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, said that South Africa will rely on Nigeria’s good advice as it takes on this important role.

It’s important to mention that Nigeria became a partner country of BRICS in October, along with 12 other nations. But Nigeria wants to become a full member of these groups to improve its economic connections and promote its interests worldwide.
