Rhodes-Vivour Calls Out Sanwo-Olu for Misusing Public Funds

Former Labour Party (LP) Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has called out Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for what he described as reckless spending in the face of widespread hardship in Lagos.

Speaking during an interview on Iyabo Ojo TV on YouTube, Rhodes-Vivour didn’t hold back as he accused the governor of misusing taxpayers’ money on questionable expenses instead of addressing the pressing needs of Lagosians.

Allegations That Raise Eyebrows

Rhodes-Vivour raised some serious concerns about how public funds are being handled. He alleged that:

  • The governor used taxpayers’ money to cover personal legal bills.
  • Nearly ₦200 million was spent on vague, unspecified projects.
  • A whopping ₦2 billion was allocated for items like fans and consultants for bus networks.

He didn’t mince words: “With the level of suffering that Nigerians and Lagosians are dealing with, we need accountability and transparency. Our government must be using our money in the most efficient way possible, and that is the job of the opposition.”

These allegations, if true, paint a worrying picture of misplaced priorities at a time when many Lagosians are struggling to make ends meet.

Staying Politically Active

Despite his loss in the last election, Rhodes-Vivour made it clear he’s not stepping away from the political scene anytime soon. In fact, he hinted at a possible comeback, stating that he’s learning from past mistakes and working hard to build a stronger movement.

He also criticized what he called a common trend in Lagos politics: the opposition going quiet after elections.

“That is not happening this time,” he said. “We’re in people’s faces, doing our best through health outreaches and micro-health insurance plans that offer free treatment worth up to ₦6,000.”

A Growing Disconnect

Rhodes-Vivour’s remarks reflect what many Lagosians feel—a growing disconnect between the government and the realities on the ground. With rising costs of living, job losses, and limited access to basic amenities, questions about government spending are more relevant than ever.

What Lies Ahead

As Lagosians grapple with these revelations, many will be watching closely for a response from Governor Sanwo-Olu. Meanwhile, Rhodes-Vivour’s determination to hold the government accountable and stay connected with the people could signal a shift in Lagos politics—one where opposition voices remain active and visible, even outside election cycles.

For now, the question remains: Will these allegations lead to the transparency and accountability Lagosians are demanding, or will they be swept under the rug like so many before them?
