After what seemed like forever, the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)season will kick off on Friday 17th December with newcomers Remo Stars of Sagamu making the short trip to Lagos to face MFM at the at the Mobalaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, in a South-west derby.

Talking about derbies, none comes bigger than the Abia derby between CAF Confederations Campaigner Enyimba and Abia Warriors at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba. Though the more accomplished of the two, Enyimba have always had a tough time with the Warriors and this season’s opener will not be an exception.

Five-time league champions 3SC of Ibadan who just got promoted back to the top-flight after a five-year hiatus, will begin their latest campaign for glory when they travel to the Pantani Stadium to face fellow NPFL newcomers Gombe United on Sunday, 19th December.

Same Sunday, arguably the star match of the opening weekend will be at the Nest of Champions in Uyo when reigning champions Akwa United will face Kano Pillars. By pedigree and recent history, both sides parade some of the best legs in the league.
