Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reiterated the club’s full support for Mykhailo Mudryk after the Ukrainian winger revealed an adverse analytical finding from a routine anti-doping test.
Mudryk, 23, said he was shocked to have been contacted by the FA on the matter, adding he has “never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules.” Both Mudryk and Chelsea confirmed the finding came from a urine sample.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Conference League clash with Shamrock Rovers, Maresca assured that the club remains behind the player. “We trust Mykhailo, and when these things happen, you need to support your players,” he said. “The coaching staff, the teammates, and the club are all with him.”
Mudryk, who signed for Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, has struggled to get regular playing time this season, only making sporadic appearances due to illness. Despite that, Maresca spoke about the recent improvement and progress of Mudryk during training.
The Ukraine international, capped 28 times for his country, has registered 10 goals and 9 assists in 73 matches for Chelsea. Maresca was insistent: “The potential we see on the training pitch is reflected in his performances.”
Mudryk keeps focused as Chelsea prepare for the upcoming fixtures.
