Israeli Airstrike Kills 10 in Gaza Humanitarian Zone

An Israeli airstrike early Thursday reportedly killed at least 10 Palestinians, including women and children, in a tent encampment in southern Gaza, according to medics. The strike targeted Al-Mawasi in western Khan Younis, which had been designated a humanitarian area. Alongside the fatalities, medics reported that 15 others were wounded. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has not commented on the incident.

As if this wasn’t enough, Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV announced that Mahmoud Salah, the director-general of Gaza’s police department, and his aide, Hussam Shahwan, were also killed in the airstrike. The ongoing war in Gaza has already claimed the lives of over 45,500 Palestinians, according to health officials in the enclave. The devastation extends beyond the death toll, most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced, and the region itself is in ruins.

This war traces back to the attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which left 1,200 Israelis dead and saw 251 others taken hostage, according to Israeli records. But here we are still witnessing continued bloodshed, destruction, and untold suffering on both sides.

It’s 2025, and the world seems to have learned nothing. Starting a new year with news like this, more deaths, more suffering, screaming to us that peace is still a distant dream. Wars like these make us long for a time when global conflicts, though frequent, weren’t as devastating. But was there ever a time the world was at peace?

The war drums keep beating, but where is the humanity? Can we even find our way back to sanity? can we?
