Significant Revenue from Expatriate Quotas

The Ministry also generated substantial revenue from expatriate quota applications. Over N3.2 billion was generated in 2024, marking a 150% increase in overall revenue from this source. In 2023, the Ministry exceeded its target, generating over N1 billion compared to a projected N600 million, surpassing the target by N400 million. The issuance of expatriate quotas is a key contributor to the Ministry’s overall financial performance.

Border Security Initiatives

Beyond financial matters, Minister Tunji-Ojo stated that the Federal Government plans to strengthen border security to control the influx of irregular migrants. He made these announcements during a media parley with heads of agencies under the Ministry of Interior in Abuja.

Conclusion

The significant revenue generation from marriage registries and expatriate quotas highlights the Ministry of Interior’s contribution to the national economy. Coupled with the commitment to enhanced border security, these developments suggest a multifaceted approach to national security and financial stability. The continued growth in these revenue streams will be crucial for funding future initiatives and strengthening the ministry’s capabilities.
