Jagaban vs. Aregbesola: Why Tinubu needs to reconcile with the minister to bolster his presidential bid
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

It has been hard for Asiwaju Tinubu to deal with the criticism he has received since he announced that he would run for the presidency in 2023. Many Nigerians think that it is time for the former Lagos State governor to step away from politics.

As long as the Jagaban has a big following in most of the country’s geopolitical zones, Asiwaju Tinubu still has a long way to go before he can become Nigeria’s next democratically elected leader.

As a result, if the “tussle” in Osun State is any indication, then Asiwaju may need to go back to the drawing board and devise new methods to “pour oil on troubled water.” Because all eyes will be on him during the state’s gubernatorial elections, Asiwaju must tread cautiously.

Only by repairing fences with Rauf Aregbesola, the current Minister of Interior, would he be able to do this.

According to sources, Aregbesola, who served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, claimed that “godfatherism” politics and enthronement by deceitful politicians who likened themselves to gods were no longer acceptable. The minister said that he trusted APC National Leader Bola Tinubu, but that he was betrayed by him.

These charges follow the release of a viral video showing the Asiwaju making significant visits to key leaders in Ogun State lately. He was in the Alake Palace, where he met with the Paramount Ruler to discuss his intentions of running for President in 2023. A video of the former governor in damp clothing around his lower area appeared on social media after the visit.

Though his managers were quick to throw accusing fingers at troublemakers, it is necessary to mention that Asiwaju is going through a difficult period as he pursues his dream of becoming Nigeria’s president in 2023.

Because Aregbesola is well-liked in Osun State, it would be prudent for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to re-establish a positive working relationship with him ahead of the state’s next gubernatorial election. Though Tinubu played a key role in Gboyega Oyetola’s election as governor in 2018, getting rid of him now for his own goals should not be difficult.

As the contest for the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in 2023 heats up, Rauf Aregbesola will have no option but to sheath his sword and look for ways to cooperate with the Asiwaju.

Rauf Aregbesola

As it is commonly known, Rauf Aregbesola, as he is commonly known, is campaigning hard against incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola, who is seeking reelection for a second term. The former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Moshood Adeoti, is a big fan of him. He thinks he’s a better choice and candidate than Oyetola to lead the APC in the upcoming governorship election.
