President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the dualisation of the Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella-Okene-Ajaokuta Expressway, a crucial project set to transform transportation and economic activities in Edo and Kogi States.
Represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration is committed to fixing federal roads nationwide. He declared, “Roads constructed under this administration will stand the test of time, lasting over 50 years.”
A Game-Changer for Edo and Kogi
This expressway, a major trade route, is expected to ease movement, boost commerce, and improve regional integration. Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, praised Tinubu for prioritizing durable infrastructure, saying, “Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are witnessing roads designed to last between 50 and 100 years.”
A Political Masterstroke?
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, described the project as a turning point, recalling his protests over the road’s deplorable state. He hailed Oshiomhole’s relentless push, saying, “Oshiomhole stood by me and insisted that this road must be fixed. Today, that determination has paid off.”
With elections ahead, Okpebholo urged Edo people to show their appreciation at the polls. Meanwhile, Kogi’s Governor, Usman Ododo, called the project a symbol of renewed hope, promising that it will foster development across both states.
For Edo residents who have long suffered terrible road conditions, this may finally be a step in the right direction, if the promises hold.
