Senate Chief Whip Raises a Point of Order

The plenary session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, was proceeding as usual when the Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Ali Monguno, raised a point of order. He alerted the Senate President to what he described as “Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s improper seating position.”

Senate Plenary Disrupted over Seating Arrangement

Monguno had hardly concluded a point of order, before Natasha erupted in protest, questioning why her seat had been changed without her consent. The situation quickly escalated into a heated shouting match, drawing the attention of the chamber Sergeant-At-Arms.

Sergeant-At-Arms Intervenes

As tensions rose, the Sergeant-At-Arms surrounded the female lawmaker in an attempt to restore order. The Senate president tried to calm her outburst but was bluffed as the female lawmaker insisted to know, “reasons why her seat was changed without her consent.”

Normalcy Restored

The situation was eventually brought under control after the public address system was shut down, allowing order to return to the plenary.

Conclusion

The incident highlights ongoing tensions within the Senate and raises questions about procedural transparency in the allocation of seats. It remains to be seen whether further actions will be taken to address Senator Natasha concerns or if the issue will be dismissed as a minor administrative adjustment.
