Kwara State Police Confirms Murder of Kwara MACBAN Chairman

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the tragic murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kwara State. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m. at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

Details of the Incident and Police Response

Alhaji Idris Abubakar was shot dead by unknown gunmen while entering his home. Police swiftly responded to the scene, recovering five expended 7.62mm shells. His remains were subsequently deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and appealed for calm and cooperation in providing information.

MACBAN’s Statement and Burial Arrangements

In a statement released by the Miyetti Allah Association’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muhammad Kangodabe, the association announced the death of their chairman with deep sorrow. The statement highlighted the tragic circumstances of his passing at the hands of unknown gunmen. Alhaji Idris Abubakar’s Janazah (funeral prayer) was conducted on Sunday at his Zango-Kulende residence, following which he was buried.

The Kwara State Police Command is actively pursuing the investigation, urging the public to remain calm and assist with any information that may aid in apprehending those responsible for this heinous crime. The Commissioner of Police’s assurance of justice underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this case.
