The 30-year-old winger has had limited minutes during his loan spell at the Emirates, with the teenager Ethan Nwaneri often preferred in Bukayo Saka’s absence. Before Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 clash with PSV Eindhoven, Sterling had totalled just 307 Premier League minutes. He had a good game, though, with two assists in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw, which sealed a dominant 9-3 aggregate victory.
Sterling still wants to play a bigger role and he stated as much after the match. “I know what I can do,” he told TNT Sports. “You just have to wait until your moment. I feel like I have a lot to give, even that’s 10 minutes, or a game.”
Arsenal’s title hopes are up in smoke and Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are ruled out for the season. Saka is expected back in April but on the basis of this latest display, Sterling will be hoping Mikel Arteta picks his name whenever he pick his team as Arsenal look to win some silverware.
