Governors elected on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly insisting on one of them succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, according to reports.

To achieve this goal, both the PDP and APC governors are working feverishly to guarantee that their colleagues get the presidential nominations of their respective parties.

Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti are among the governors rumored to be seeking the president in 2023.

That, according to a high-ranking source in Abuja, is why the governors are hell-bent on seizing control of both the ruling and major opposition parties’ machinery.

Last December, the PDP governors ensured that their favoured candidates were elected to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) while the APC governors are now fighting for control of the ruling party with other party leaders ahead of the presidential primary,

PDP governors, meanwhile, are said to be strengthening contacts with other party officials ahead of the party’s national council and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, which are slated for Monday and Tuesday in Abuja, respectively.

The NEC meeting is likely to make crucial decisions on matters connected to the 2023 elections, particularly in regards to presidential ticket zoning and party primary guidelines.

According to a reliable source, the governors of the 36 states have agreed that one of them should become the country’s next president.

The governors have also been meeting and consulting on developing presidential candidates for both the APC and the PDP, and the conversations have advanced to the point where a formal statement is expected in the days ahead.
