Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied any involvement with a Niger Delta militant group or connections to recent explosions at oil and gas facilities in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara described the viral video circulating online as “fake and malicious.” He also pointed out that communities where the alleged incidents occurred have already dismissed claims of any explosions on oil and gas facilities.

Fubara: “I Have No Links to Militants”

The governor’s spokesperson emphasized that Fubara has no affiliations with any militant groups and does not support any actions that threaten the peace or security of the state.

“Governor Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the State or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or safety and security of oil and gas facilities, and by extension, the economy of the country,” the statement read.

The statement also reiterated the governor’s commitment to maintaining peace, describing it as a priority for the administration. “The Governor has repeatedly made it clear at every public event that the peace of the State is paramount to him, and that he would pay any price to secure and sustain peace in the State, as it is only in an atmosphere of peace and security that governance and development can thrive,” Chukwudi added.

Warning Against Violence and Fake News

Governor Fubara issued a stern warning to those attempting to incite violence or use his name to destabilize the state. He also called on social media users to desist from spreading falsehoods that could worsen tensions.

“It is important to warn bloggers and social media hirelings to stop, forthwith, their campaign to create an atmosphere of tension, chaos, and anarchy in the State, as their fake reports and posts in the last couple of days have triggered enough wrong decisions that would not help the State move forward,” the statement warned.

Fubara also urged security agencies to investigate the origin of the misleading videos and take necessary action against those responsible.

Security Agencies Urged to Act

The governor’s office called on law enforcement agencies to take the circulating videos seriously, investigate their sources, and ensure that those responsible face consequences.

“Security agencies should take note of these fake videos designed to misinform the people and further paint the State in a bad light. They should take every necessary step to contain them and bring those behind them to book,” Chukwudi stated.

Bottom Line

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has strongly denied any links to Niger Delta militants or involvement in oil facility attacks. He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and called on security agencies to act against those spreading false information. As the political climate in Rivers State remains tense, Fubara continues to distance himself from any attempts to destabilize the region.
