Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visits the White House on Monday to discuss the new U.S. tariffs on Israeli exports, following concerns over a 17% tax on key goods. Three Israeli officials revealed the visit on Saturday, though his office has not officially confirmed it. If it happens, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet Trump face-to-face about the new trade measures.

Israeli Exports Face Threat from New U.S. Tariffs

As part of Trump’s new tariff policy, Israeli exports such as machinery and medical equipment may face a 17% tax, according to an Israeli finance ministry official. This could seriously impact Israel’s trade with its biggest partner, the United States. About 98% of U.S. goods are tax-free under the 40-year-old U.S.–Israel Free Trade Agreement, and Israel has already dropped remaining tariffs on American imports.

Netanyahu’s Visit Pushes Back Against Tariff Impact

Netanyahu’s visit to the White House was arranged after a Thursday phone call with President Trump. Netanyahu, currently in Hungary, raised the issue of the U.S. tariffs on Israeli exports, which prompted the invitation. Axios reported the news first, noting that other issues like Iran and the war with Hamas in Gaza may also be discussed.

Conclusion: Netanyahu Visits White House to Protect Israeli Trade

With U.S. tariffs on Israeli exports threatening major sectors, Netanyahu’s visit to the White House signals urgency. Israel is moving fast to protect its trade and economic interests. This diplomatic move shows how seriously the country views its partnership with the United States and the need to respond quickly to U.S. tariff changes.
