The South-South chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given popular social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, one week to apologize to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The APC warned him after he criticized Akpabio’s attendance at Pope Francis’ funeral in a recent viral video. In the video, VeryDarkMan described Akpabio’s trip to Rome as “shameful” and said he should have visited Nigerian states suffering from killings instead.
However, the South-South APC Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, in a statement from Abuja, cautioned VeryDarkMan. He accused him of confusing activism with slander and blackmail.
He said, “VeryDarkMan is becoming notorious for blackmail, slander and character assassination while pretending to be an advocate for the masses and social crusader.” He stressed that Akpabio was officially nominated by President Bola Tinubu to represent Nigeria and questioned why that should be an issue.
Blessing Agbomhere Defends Akpabio’s Rome Visit
Agbomhere defended the Senate President, saying that Akpabio was a devout Catholic and family man. According to him, President Tinubu trusted Akpabio to lead the delegation to Rome because of his character.
He said, “Being a devout Catholic and family man with unblemished character, President Tinubu saw in Akpabio a worthy ambassador of Nigeria to such an event as the Pope’s funeral and wasted no time in thrusting that responsibility on him. What is wrong with that?”
Agbomhere demanded that VeryDarkMan must tender an unreserved apology within one week. He also warned him to stop making statements that could damage the reputation of the Tinubu administration globally.
He said, “I am, with this statement, issuing VeryDarkMan a one-week ultimatum to immediately tender an unreserved apology to the Senate president for the slanderous comments and to desist from further bringing the integrity of the President Bola Tinubu led administration into disrepute in the eyes of the global community.”
APC Defends Tinubu’s Commitment to Solving Insecurity
Agbomhere also defended the Tinubu government’s efforts to address insecurity. He urged Nigerians to ignore VeryDarkMan’s “uninformed ranting” and stressed that the administration inherited many of the security problems from past governments.
He said that President Tinubu had already met with security chiefs after his trips to France and the United Kingdom. During the meeting, Tinubu reportedly gave new marching orders to ensure better strategies against insecurity.
Agbomhere said, “Upon his return from France and the UK, Tinubu met with the security chiefs and during the meeting, he gave them marching orders to ensure that a different approach is deployed in the fight against insecurity. Does this sound like a man who is not serious about protecting the lives and property of Nigerians?”
He added that Nigeria’s security issues cannot be solved overnight but assured that Tinubu’s administration remains committed to restoring peace across the country.
