Governor Okpebholo Raises Minimum Wage to N75,000

Governor Monday Okpebholo has raised the minimum wage for workers in Edo State from ₦70,000 to ₦75,000. He made this announcement during the Workers’ Day celebration held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

“Today, I am proud to announce that our administration has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 per month for Edo workers,” he said.

The governor stated that the wage increase is meant to improve workers’ lives and reward their commitment. He also urged workers to remain dedicated as the state government continues its development plans.

Governor Okpebholo supports Edo workers with new jobs and better pay

Governor Okpebholo said his administration is focused on the welfare of Edo workers. According to him, many casual workers, including over 1,000 cleaners who lacked job security, were moved into the core civil service to give them peace of mind.

In the education sector, the governor revealed that 500 new teachers have been hired. He is also considering confirming the employment of over 3,000 casual teachers.

He added, “We approved the recruitment of 450 clinical and non-clinical staff for our state hospitals and regularized 126 contract staff at the Edo State Specialist Hospital.”

These moves are aimed at strengthening the health system and improving job stability for professionals in the health sector.

In his earlier message, Governor Okpebholo sent warm wishes to workers in Edo State and around the world. Through his press secretary Fred Itua, he praised the hard work and resilience of workers across all sectors.

The governor said workers play a vital role in building society, shaping communities, and developing the state. He noted that the May Day celebration is a time to recognize workers’ contributions and restate the government’s support.

He also acknowledged the daily challenges faced by workers and promised continued action to solve their problems.
