Manchester United has made it official that they are buying Brazilian player Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after unlocking his £62.5 million release clause.
The 26-year old Cunha is about to conclude a contract for a five-year term with the Red Devils and has the right to go for one more year, thus becoming the first new signing under the management of the new coach, Ruben Amorim. Additionally, the procedure also relies on visa approval and further registration formalities.
“Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement on the transfer of Matheus Cunha,” the club declared in a statement. “The whole team of Manchester United is looking forward to Matheus’ arrival at Old Trafford.”
The Brazilian forward was always making the goal of the players at Molineux, who finished 18 in the top two competitions and got The Best Player of the Year prize in Wolves. Together with his making a transfer from the Atletico, Madrid club, in the winter of 2023 until August 2025, the forward scored 33 of the total 92 goals for Wolves in all his appearances until today.
The Brazilian’s addition to the squad is a direct result of United’s intentions to rebuild their squad in the wake of the league’s poor performance, where they finished 15th and suffered a Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
Taking Cunha into the squad will inject direct offensive and new impact in Amorim’s beginning vision for the club.
