Nicolas Jackson, the Chelsea forward, has apologized openly after he was sent off during the game in which the Blues lost 3-1 to Flamengo at the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday.

Jackson, who was 24 years old on the matchday, got a straight red card after only four minutes on the pitch as a substitute. His recklessly challenge on Flamengo’s defender Ayrton Lucas, who was going for the ball, left no room for discussion and therefore it was his second red card in the last four games.

On Jackson’s Instagram account the message was, “I would like to apologise. To the club, my team, the staff, and my team mates, as well as all the fans watching, I have, unfortunately, disappointed you. I have no excuses. I am taking full responsibility. I will think about it, I will learn and I will be back stronger.”

Chelsea’s manager Enzo Maresca is of the opinion that it was a “bad moment” for the striker and affirmed that Jackson will be absent for at least one game. The Blues’ next fixture is against Esperance Tunis on Wednesday.

Defender Marc Cucurella said that Jackson was very down after the match.

“He is very sad,” Cucurella said. “He is a young player with a lot of good skills, but probably he needs to work a little on these things.”

Last month in a Premier League game against Newcastle, Jackson got his previous red card.
