Ex-Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was given conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he was charged with five counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian is alleged black of having committed the same offenses in the period from 2021 to 2022, while he was playing for Arsenal.
The people involved in the case are three women—five counts of rape against two persons and one of sexual assault against the third.
The inquiry was commenced in February 2022 when the first report was handed to the police.Days only after leaving Arsenal as a free agent since the contract ended in June, the police charged Partey with these allegations.
On 2 September he will be back at the Old Bailey for the continuation of the case.Partey, who appeared at the last court in a dark suit and blue jacket, stood in the dock and repeated his name and understanding of the bail conditions.
The conditions of the bail also forbid Partey from meeting the alleged victims and require him to inform the police if he goes abroad or if his address changes.
Parter’s barrister, Jenny Wiltshire, claims that he is “no doubt the culprit” and “clearing his name” is what he is looking forward to.
According to press reports, the player is in negotiations with Spanish club Villarreal to sign a one-year contract with an option to renew the agreement.
