New Borussia Dortmund signing Jobe Bellingham has confessed that he experienced “anxieties” after his elder brother Jude’s decision to go to Dortmund, upon his departure from Sunderland in the summer.
Jobe, 19, became a signing of the German club in June, two years after Jude left Dortmund for Real Madrid, where he is now widely recognized as one of the best players in the world and a key player for England.
During the pre-season camp in Austria with Dortmund, Jobe talked about the pressure he felt being overshadowed by his brother’s legacy. “You cannot help it. I have anxieties, especially because of the fact that I am very young,” he replied.
“However, Dortmund made me feel that they were not going to be a problem for me. This is my trip. ”Jobe was the main figure of Dortmund’s Club World Cup campaign in the United States, netting once and assisting once in four outings.
Just like at Sunderland, he wears “Jobe” on the back of his shirt to prevent continuous comparisons with Jude. The young Bellingham, who likes to play in a deeper midfield position, said that he is not one who likes to be in the spotlight.
“I only need to do my job and stay focused,” he concluded.Dortmund are set to open their season against Rot-Weiss Essen on August 18 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
