Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and is now out indefinitely.
The 28-year-old got the nasty injury while Spurs played against Newcastle United in Seoul on Sunday.
The club is just as committed as before to making it possible for Maddison to have an operation in the next few days, although no arrangements have been made as to when he will be back after that.
After surgery, the England player will start his recovery program with Tottenham’s medical team as his supervisors.
Maddison was not available for the Europa League final, which Spurs won, due to injury, and with 75 appearances for the club since 2023, he has been involved in 37 goals across all competitions.
“The whole Tottenham Hotspur team is with James in his recovery and we will be by his side at all times during this process,” the club said in an official statement.
Maddison has been on the injury list several times in those past seasons and missed 23 matches in total along the last two campaigns.
His latest setback is a big blow to both Spurs and England, as the midfielder now faces a long spell on the sidelines with no estimated return date provided.
