Arsenal showcase their dominance at the Emirates as they got a commanding 5-0 win over Leeds United to take the Gunners to the summit of the Premier League table. It was also their seventh consecutive victory in this fixture.
As usual, the home team were in complete control from the very start. Captain Martin Ødegaard tested Illan Meslier’s goal early on but he had to leave the pitch due to injury.
New signing Viktor Gyökeres also had a great opportunity to score but he wasted it. Leeds could have had their first goal through Pascal Struijk’s header but David Raya was well-positioned to save the shot.
Rays came in for the great save when Pascal Struijk tried from a close range after a corner ( Declan Rice’s corner). However, the score was opened by Jurriën Timber as he jumped the highest and headed the ball into the far corner after Declan Rice’s precise corner.
Timber then at the last moments of the first half, turned passer only, letting Bukayo Saka go through and hit the ball with the side of his left foot, scoring and doubling the lead.
Gy:ökeres however made up for it shortly after the break as he scored a neat goal at the near post to give his first Arsenal goal.
Despite Saka later hobbling off injured, Timber got his second goal from a free kick just before 15-year-old Max Dowman made his debut and won a stoppage-time penalty. Gy:ökeres made sure to score his second goal with the penalty kick he converted.
With this victory, Arsenal’s record home unbeaten run against newly-promoted sides now stretches to 43 games while Leeds’ seven-match winning run comes to an end.
