Sabalenka Keeps US Open Title after Straight-Sets Victory over Anisimova

Big things will be happening at the US Open semi-final as the world number one Aryna Sabalenka will have to deal with Jessica Pegula who is looking for revenge and Naomi Osaka will keep fighting her way back as she is set to face Amanda Anisimova.

After Vondrousova had to quit due to injury, Sabalenka took the opportunity to move to the semi-finals and her next goal is to be in her sixth Grand Slam final on hard court in a row.

She is the runner-up in all four majors this year but has not won the title, being a close second in Melbourne, Paris, and Wimbledon. She has outdone Pegula seven times out of nine including their last year’s US Open final meeting.

That being said, Pegula is still in great shape. She has not lost a set in the tournament, beating Barbora Krejcikova 6–3, 6–3 and becoming the first American woman since Serena Williams to win two US Open semi-finals in a row without dropping a set. “Sure thing, revenge would be great, obviously,” said Pegula. “I get to play against the best player in the world, and that’s cool.”

The opponent of Anisimova surprised the second seed Iga Swiatek by defeating her 6–4, 6–3 and this time Anisimova didn’t lose her Wimbledon final with Swiatek. The American who was away for a mental break last year is now going for a second consecutive Slam final.

There is Osaka who defeated Karolina Muchova 6–4, 7–6(3) and will be playing her first Grand Slam semi-final since 2021.

Notably, former US Open winner Osaka, the two-time champion, has never been able to triumph against Anisimova, the player who defeated her twice in 2022.
