According to an ESPN report, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested in connection with an FBI probe into illegal sports betting on Thursday morning at a hotel in Orlando. The 31-year-old who didn’t play in Miami’s season-opening loss against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday is reportedly one of six persons charged with using professional basketball for a criminal gambling operation by using inside information, as per the sources of local law enforcement cited by ABC News.
The press conference featuring FBI Director Kash Patel and the officials of the Eastern District of New York will be held later on Thursday. They will be talking about a case that also involves illegal poker schemes and two indictments along with Rozier’s arrest.
Rozier, the ex-Lousville prep, was once the focus of a betting scandal for which improbable betting activity during his stint with the Charlotte Hornets, in connection with a game in March 2023, was cited. NBA investigated the case and closed it as no violation had been found.
NBA representives Mike Bass said the league is currently working the FBI with the ongoing federal investigation. Rozier who has never cross the 20 points mark on average in a season and has featured in 665 games, has yet to said anything on the news of his arrest.
