Real Madrid are set to file for compensation against UEFA after the regional court of Madrid rejected the appeals filed by UEFA, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and LaLiga in the case of the Super League in Europe.

The court confirmed the decision that UEFA and FIFA had unfairly hindered the creation of the rebel competition by blocking it. The Super League was the project that was launched in 2021 with 12 founding clubs and later abandoned due to the pressure of fans and governments.

Real Madrid wrote in a press release that the verdict confirmed the infringement of the competition regulations by UEFA and “opens the way for the club to claim a considerable amount of money.” The Madrid club also informed that their meeting with UEFA did not yield any agreements on financial transparency, player welfare, and fan accessibility, among other topics.

On the other hand, UEFA argued that the court’s ruling did not accept the Super League project that had been abandoned and that its rules for the authorization of the competitions are still valid. The governing body of European football will only decide on the next steps after it has considered the judgment.

Juve and Barca have distanced themselves from the project, leaving Real Madrid as the only club that is still demanding a change in the way European football is ‍‌‍‍‌governed.
