In a significant breakthrough in the brazen €88 million Louvre heist, two suspects in custody have “partially recognised” their involvement, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday.
The two men are believed to be part of the four-person team that, armed with power tools, broke into the museum’s Apollon gallery in broad daylight on October 19th. The thieves targeted the French crown jewels, one of the most valuable collections in the world’s most-visited museum.
While the partial admission marks the first major crack in the suspects’ story, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau delivered a sobering update: the priceless jewels have not yet been recovered. She further revealed that the criminal gang responsible may be larger than initially thought, suggesting the four individuals seen on CCTV may have had accomplices.
