The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) made an announcement on Tuesday denouncing the murder of the Anambra House of Assembly member, Okechukwu Okoye and divorcing its members from all claims stating that they were involved. According to the secessionist group, Mr. Okoye was killed by certain elements hell-bent on destabilizing the group’s struggle for independence in the state.

Emma Powerful, IPOB Spokesperson condemned the lawmaker’s beheading as nothing short of an abomination and insisted that it had nothing to do with the Eastern Security Network (ESN) despite insinuations to the contrary. He said that the members of IPOB were incapable of such a brutal act and that it was instead their enemies that were the masterminds of such a dastardly claim. He also claimed that the gunmen had been mobilized financially by the DSS and DMI to create anarchy in the land.

Expanding on his point, Mr. Powerful demanded that the criminals masquerading as members of IPOB should cease their attacks on the Hausa indigenes as they had, in his words, suffered like Biafrans at the hands of the Fulani. He said that Hausas had the right to work and move about freely and that the murderers of the Hausa mother and children should prepare themselves to face justice.
