Chelsea Sink Burnley to Go Second as Turf Moor Woes Continue

Burnley’s abysmal home streak against Chelsea has now been extended to a joint-club record of 10 Premier League games without a win, as the Clarets lost 2-0 at Turf Moor. The victory takes Chelsea to second place in the table, while unfortunate enough for Burnley, their relegation worries are getting more serious day by day.

Even though it was Chelsea who dominated in the end, Burnley didn’t look out of place at all in the opening minutes. Both Loum Tchaouna and Jaidon Anthony in the early minutes of the game were shots blocked, as the home fans tried to encourage their team with shouts, etc. Chelsea were not at their best and in fact, only Pedro Neto’s effort was worth mentioning in the first half, which even then was saved by a defender who was in the line of fire.

The Blues did eventually snap out of their lethargy before the interval. Jamie Gittens was twice involved—after Kyle Walker was able to block Gittens’ attempt in a very important way, Gittens moments later delivered a wonderful cross to the far post, enabling Neto to head Chelsea into the lead 1–0.

Chelsea were good after the break, albeit the scarcity of ideas on the creative front remained. Gittens had a shot that was deflected off-target while Neto was very close to scoring his second goal as his effort hit the post. Burnley were up for the challenge and so Zian Flemming volleyed over, and the decision to make three changes, which was a complete failure, followed.

In the dying moments of the game, Chelsea ensured the winning goal as Marc Guiu burst through the defense to set up Enzo Fernández for an easy goal. Maresca’s players were cool and collected and now, they have a tough week to look forward to with games against Barcelona and ‍‌‍‍‌Arsenal.
