Soludo Declares Curfew on Anambra State

The government of Anambra state under the auspice of Governor Soludo has declared a curfew on the state. The announcement was made through the governor in the course of a state broadcast on Wednesday in the state capital. In it, he declared that the curfew would be held from nightfall till dawn, 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, in eight local government areas and would go into impact from Thursday. Those affected consist of Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ogbaru, Orumba North, and Orumba South. 

The curfew was a result of the anger of Governor Soludo over the murder of Harira Jubril and her youngsters by unknown gunmen on Sunday which had caused anxiety in the country at large and attracted President Buhari’s attention. Also covered in the order to the affected areas have been whole bans on bikes popularly known as okadas, tricycles or kekes, and shuttle buses. Soludo said the ban would persist “until further notice” and when all Sit-At-Home movements cease. 

Other things blanketed in the directive were mandates given to youths, giving them the power to make certain the implementation of the curfew and catch any automobile flouting the ban order. It also gave neighborhood vigilante associations the mandate to ascertain defaulters to the authorities and charged motorcycle and bus unions as well as landowners and communities to take custody of their domains and keep an eye on the activities of their tenants and members. It additionally requested that communities supply weekly safety updates through their city unions and traditional rulers.
