Jamie Carragher insists that Liverpool’s squad must own up to their decline in performance claiming that key striker Mohamed Salah is past his peak. The Reds endured another defeat on Wednesday, going down 4-1 to PSV at Anfield in the Champions League – marking their ninth loss in 12 games, across all tournaments, the club’s poorest stretch since the relegation season of 1953-54.
Talking on CBS Sport, Carragher acknowledged that manager Arne Slot faces pressure. Emphasized that the team cannot take refuge behind the manager. “Liverpool is not a club that fires managers quickly. The coach is given time,” he remarked. “I’m frustrated with the players. This can’t continue longer.”

Carragher also voiced worries about the weakening of Liverpool’s unshakable backbone. “Alisson gets injured frequently, Van Dijk isn’t the same anymore, and Salah appears to have lost his pace “, he stated. Even though Salah had 57 goal contributions last season, his productivity has fallen drastically with just eight contributions up to this point this season.
The former defender urged Liverpool’s other players to step up rather than rely on ageing leaders. “Some of them only play well when Salah or Van Dijk carry them,” he warned. “This might be a glimpse of Liverpool’s future when those legends eventually move on.”
