Liverpool have led a tribute to Diogo Jota on a day that would have been the Portuguese forward’s 29th birthday. Jota sadly passed away in a car crash back in July, a tragedy that shocked the sports communities and brought every team together in mourning. The accident also took the life of his brother, André Silva, intensifying the sadness experienced by the football family.
The club reiterated its dedication to assisting Jota’s family, promising to honor the amount of his contract. 11 Days prior to the accident, Jota had wed his wife, Ruth, leaving a young family now cared for by Liverpool’s ongoing support.
On Thursday, Liverpool posted: “Today, like every day, we commemorate Diogo Jota on what would have been his 29th birthday… Always, in our hearts, it’s always our number 20.”
Condolences also flowed in from Portugal and England. Paços de Ferreira, the club where Jota started his journey, posted: “We honor you, Jotinha,” whereas Porto expressed: “You remain with us always.” The Portuguese national squad paid tribute by calling him ” our number 21.”
Wolves, Jota’s former Premier League club, also shared their love, stating: “He will never be forgotten.”
