Police officials have confirmed that kidnappers have set free the previously abducted Methodist Church Prelate, Samuel Kanu. This statement was made by the Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Spokesperson, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna who revealed that the priest was freed on Monday morning. However, no further details were given on how exactly the clergyman regained his freedom.
It might be recalled that it was during the weekend that the kidnappers seized the head of the country’s Methodist Church and abducted two other priests who were with him on their way back from a church event in another state. Those two were the Bishop of the Methodist Church, Owerri Diocese and the Prelate Chaplain who police thankfully revealed had been released also.
They, along with the Prelate, had been kidnapped on Sunday at about 2 pm on their way from a church event in Okigwe, Imo State to Isuochi in Umu Nneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
SP Ogbonna describes the abduction as unfortunate and made assurances that the police were on hand to ensure the swift and safe return of the clergymen and also appealed to the people of the state to provide the police with any useful information that would lead to the release of the kidnapped priests and the arrest of the kidnappers.
One of these, must-have gone well because shortly after the priests were released and Ogbonna announced that they were mobilizing all their tactical teams to ensure the rescue of the clergymen and the possible arrest of the hoodlums.
