Liam Rosenior, the new head coach of Chelsea, has denied the rumors that he would be a mere figurehead and would be a big part of the club’s ownership and has stated he was hired to make the choices and run the team according to his own conditions.
The 41-year-old has taken the place of Enzo Maresca, who was suddenly dismissed on the first day of the year despite getting the team into the Champions League and winning two titles last season, and his departure was the result of the breaking of the relationship between the manager and the club, many sources have mentioned that there were disagreements regarding tactics, planning of the roster and even recruiting.
Rosenior, who had been supervised by the same ownership and managed Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg in the past, is seen by some people as a “company man.” Nevertheless, at his first press conference, he rejected that idea and pointed out that no one can “make it” without the freedom and power of a manager.
Rosenior realized the criticism that came with his hiring, but he was rather cheerful and noticed that he was described as calm, ambitious, and result-oriented. He would not engage in comparison with the Chelsea managers of the past, but he insisted that his ambition is not only to survive but also to be a part of the triumphant team.
After a series of five consecutive games without a win, Chelsea now sit in 8th place in the Premier League. This was after a devastating 2–1 loss to Fulham in which they were also reduced to ten men for the majority of the game. Nonetheless, Rosenior is very positive and said that the players are set to make the transition from just good performances to attaining results.
The fresh manager commended the skills and professionalism of the entire group and is convinced that Chelsea has the potential of being “limitless.” In the same breath, he admitted that his immediate concern was to attain gradual improvement while he practically leads the Blues back to the top of England’s football.
