Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of English midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. The deal brought the England international back to the Premier League and is said to have cost Spurs £34 million.

Tottenham have not released information about the contract duration, but the 24-year-old is rumored to have agreed to a five-and-a-half-year deal after consenting to personal terms a few days ago. Earlier in the transfer window, Aston Villa was the most likely destination for Gallagher, but Tottenham jumped Villa and club competition to get the player.

Gallagher made the switch to Atletico Madrid in 2024 and played 77 times in all competitions, scoring seven goals and creating seven assists. Nevertheless, his role became limited in the current season as he only started 10 of 30 times in all competitions, including the Club World Cup, and he had only once completed a full 90-minute game.

According to Tottenham’s official website, Gallagher was most thrilled about the move to the club. “I’m extremely happy and thrilled now that I am here, and taking the next step in my career at such a great club,” he added. “I had a desire to play for Spurs, and by a stroke of luck, the club was on the same page.”

The midfielder adds great Premier League exposure to the team since he has played 136 top-flight games between West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea prior to his spell in La Liga.

Following the loss of Rodrigo Bentancur for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury, Tottenham wanted to add to their squad and gave Gallagher the go-ahead to get them midfield energy and depth.

The Three Lions player may appear for the first time this weekend in a Premier League game when Spurs will entertain West Ham United at ‍‌‍‍‌home.
