Arne Slot has stated that to him, playing entertaining football is more important than winning trophies, even as Liverpool is having a hard time in their second season under his management.
Slot had a perfect first season at Anfield, leading the Reds to their 20th English top-flight league title after taking over from Jürgen Klopp before the 2024-25 season. In doing so, he became one of the few managers to win the Premier League in their debut season in charge.

Nonetheless, Liverpool’s second season after the title has not been up to the mark. Apart from a record £446 million summer spending spree that saw Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez joining the squad, the Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League and are going to the final stages of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Slot is now under increasing pressure with reports of former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso being linked to the job. However, the Dutchman is still very much in favour of his method.
Slot told the Reds Roundtable podcast that he put more value on identity than on honours, that possession-based, high-intensity football was his dream and that such a style would excite the fans.
This season, Liverpool’s scoring has drastically fallen, even though they have been dominating possession, which shows the discrepancy between style and results. The Reds are going to host Manchester City on Sunday in a match that is very important for their top-four hopes.
