Barcelona winger, Lamine Yamal, has gone one better than Kylian Mbappe, in terms of the most goals scored in a top-five European league till the age of 19, deeply confirming his lightning rise as one of football’s brightest stars.
The Spain international scored from long range in Barcelona’s 3-0 La Liga win against Mallorca, taking his league goal tally to 24 career goals thus passing Mbappe’s record of 23, which he set in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain. This feat was achieved a few months before Yamal’s 19th birthday; thus, the teen has added time to widen the gap.

Yamal’s goal also preserved Barcelona’s perfect home record this season, as well as showcased the player’s increased importance in Hansi Flick’s squad. He has scored 10 times in 19 league matches during this season, a personal best already, while providing 8 assists and being the first player to complete over 100 successful dribbles in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Barcelona are still in the mix for several trophies as they have secured the Spanish Super Cup and reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals, besides leading La Liga and being at the last 16 stage of the Champions League.
With attacking injuries and rotation disrupting the runs of senior forwards, Yamal’s maintained level could turn out to be the key as Barcelona aim to add more trophies to their cabinet this season.
