Liverpool FC faced a tough blow after losing 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, who sit at the bottom of the table, at Molineux.

Manager Arne Slot acknowledged that the team needs to fix their costly problem of letting in late goals. Wolves went ahead when Rodrigo Gomes scored with about 12 minutes left, but then Mohamed Salah calmly put the ball in to level the score. Liverpool’s old weakness showed up again in stoppage time when Andre’s shot, which took a lucky deflection, slipped past Alisson Becker and handed the hosts a dramatic win.

This was the fifth time this Premier League season that Liverpool ended up losing because of a goal in the 90th minute, more than any other team has ever had in a single season of the competition.

Slot, who handled a lot of spending over the summer, was clearly annoyed that his team couldn’t come through in key moments. He said, “We’re losing way too many football games and giving up points,” pointing out the usual defensive mistakes right at the end.

This loss puts Liverpool in fifth place and in danger of dropping even lower, with more pressure building up before their FA Cup rematch against Wolves.

Captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the team’s play was “slow, predictable and sloppy,” capturing how the season keeps falling apart.
