In a statement given on Monday, the 6th of June by Assistant Route Commander, Miss Omozie Inegbenegbor, at least seven individuals have been confirmed dead in an auto crash that occurred in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo. Miss Inegbenegbor who is also the Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety, confirmed that the auto crash which happened late Sunday night at about 11 pm, involved at least 14 vehicles, including 13 trailers and a Sienna bus.
A total of 25 people were involved in the road accident in which 7 persons were killed and the rest were injured. It has been reported that the car crash took place as a result of the failure of breaks from one of the trailers, which ran into other vehicles on the road, resulting in several crashes and fire outbreaks.
The Assistant Route Commander disclosed that the rescue team of the F.R.S.C, Edo command has been in the area, doing rescue operations, clearing vehicular obstructions, and managing traffic along the area.”
Mr. Henry Benamaisia, The Sector Commander has advised drivers to always ensure that their brakes, tires, and windshield wipers were in good working conditions, to imbibe defensive driving techniques every time they were on the road, and to cease driving above the recommended speed limit.
