Q: Can you tell us your name and where you are from?

“My name is Ajayi Segun, and I’m from Egbado Ayetoro, Abeokuta, Ogun State.”

Q: What business do you run, and when did you start it?

“I run a barbing salon, and I started it in 2008. Since I started, God has been faithful. This business has helped me raise my kids and my wife, and I was also able to build a house. It has been a blessing for my family and me.”

Q: Where did you start your business, and how did you come to Sango?

“I first started in Mushin, Lagos State, where I learned the basics of the trade. After some years, I moved to Sango, Ogun State, to expand my business. The move was not easy, as I had to adapt to a new environment and rebuild my clientele. But with patience, faith, and dedication, I was able to establish myself and grow steadily.”

Q: Where is your shop located in Sango?

“My shop is at Erinko Estate, Sango, Ogun State. It is a convenient location for many residents in the area, and over the years, I have built a loyal customer base.”

Q: What advice do you have for people planning to enter the barbing business?

“There’s money in this business, but you must be very patient, because earnings come gradually. I also want to caution those coming behind me: the job can be dangerous at times because we interact with different customers. Some customers may make unreasonable requests, like asking us to give them barbed hairs, which can put barbers in difficult situations. Barbers must always remain professional, patient, and careful. It’s a holy job that requires integrity and respect.”

Q: Any final thoughts for aspiring barbers?

“I plead with upcoming barbers to be patient and diligent. Respect the job, work hard, and maintain honesty. This is a profession that can provide for your family if done correctly. With faith and commitment, anyone can succeed.”

Ajayi Segun’s story is a testament to the resilience and dedication of small business owners in Sango. From humble beginnings in Mushin to establishing a thriving salon in Ogun State, his journey highlights the opportunities and challenges that come with running a small business. Beyond financial success, Segun emphasizes the importance of patience, integrity, and respect for the profession, especially given the risks that come with dealing with difficult customers.

For many young entrepreneurs in the community, his journey serves as an inspiration, showing that with hard work, faith, and perseverance, even a modest barbing salon can become a source of family support, stability, and pride.
