Barcelona has reportedly opened discussions on a potential summer switch for their defender Alessandro Bastoni, as the Spanish side looks to reinforce their defense next season. The majority of the club’s transfers have centered on bringing in a world-class forward. However, Barcelona is equally interested in acquiring a top central defender who could partner the fledgling star Pau Cubarsi. Bastoni, a player at Inter Milan, is currently their main target.
Sources say that initial talks have already taken place with the stellar Italian’s agents and Barcelona want to finalise the personal terms so that they can start the formal negotiations with Inter.
Nevertheless, there may be some hiccups in finalising this transfer. Even though the Spanish club is optimistic about fulfilling the La Liga spending requirements, the financial limitations of Barcelona are still a question. Also, Inter have no pressing incentive to sell since Bastoni is signed till 2028.
Alongside being a formidable defensive player, Bastoni also possesses the ability to play from the back, which is a key aspect of this team’s style. Unsurprisingly, he is considered one of the best defenders in Europe, and such a profile is attracting Barcelona not only from a playing point of view but also philosophically.
Joan Laporta (President) said before that any new signing would have to be convincing for the purposes of marketing, which is why he could be important in the bargain. Based on the player’s profile and quality, he would be the perfect long-term accomplice to Pau Gasol, but this process will not be a walk in the park.
