The police of South Korea have taken into custody many truck drivers for blocking traffic and disrupting the movement of goods near factories as their planned nationwide strike enters the fourth day.

About seven thousand five hundred truck drivers have joined this strike and the drivers are on strike because they want the government to give them a minimum wage to help their finances which are being affected by the high rise in fuel prices. They also want the government to shift the temporary rules guaranteeing minimum freight rates which would be expiring at the end of the year 2022.

Lee Eung-joo, one of the representatives of Cargo Truckers Solidarity, said the police have released twenty-nine of the truck drivers out of forty that had been arrested. He also added that about nine of the truck driver were slightly injured in their struggle with police, but not one of them had been hospitalized.

This strike has however raised concern among Government officials and business leaders who feel that it could affect the economy and slow down South Korean exportation.
