The government of the United States of America led by President Joe Biden would be lifting the compulsory coronavirus test that people coming into the country through international airlines have to take.
Air travelers who were not vaccinated were formally subjected to taking a covid test within a day of boarding the flight to the united states while those that were vaccinated had to present a negative test result within 3 days of travel.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has deemed taking the test as not necessary anymore. The agency also said they would be re-evaluating the purpose of the testing requirement every ninety days and also added it could be brought back if there was a new variant of coronavirus.
Airline and tourism groups had been on the government’s neck requesting the elimination of the test requirement for international travelers. They said that it was obsolete and it was also not encouraging people to travel into the country.
This decision to lift the requirement for testing is happening six weeks after a federal judge had stopped the Center for Disease Control rule of wearing masks in public transportation which could include trains, planes, buses, and transit hubs. However, the center for Disease Control would still suggest testing for the covid test as a precautionary measure.
“I’m glad CDC suspended the burdensome coronavirus testing requirement for international travelers, and I’ll continue to do all I can to support the strong recovery of our hospitality industry,” Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said in a statement.
