Marc Cucurella hit back at angry Barcelona fans who have slammed his move to Real Madrid, but said there were “no doubts” about joining.
The Spanish international left La Masia this week for the biggest rivals in the country, receiving heavy criticism from some of the Blaugrana fanbase, with ex-player Gerard Piqué notably outspoken. But Cucurella insists he stands by his decision.
At a press conference on Friday, the versatile left-back thanked Barcelona for his development but maintained he has made the right choice. “When a club like Real Madrid comes for you and makes it clear that they want you, it is very difficult to say no. Every cycle in a footballer’s career comes to an end.

It is a very important leap for me and my family. I am a Real Madrid player now.” The ex-Chelsea man was adamant the speed of the transfer helped him make up his mind. Real Madrid contacted him once an agreement with his current club was reached, and the 27-year-old said he was “delighted” to accept the offer.
He claimed the deal was completed in a day-and-a-half, which “removed all doubts about the decision.” Cucurella remains certain that it was the right one, with Real Madrid one of the biggest in world football. Despite all, Barcelona is set to benefit from his move financially through Fifa’s solidarity payment system.
