The eagerly anticipated rematch between former rivals Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is now indefinitely on hold due to legal and financial troubles ahead of their proposed bout.

Pacquiao’s team released a statement Friday regarding the postponement that outlined several federal lawsuits, the inability to find common ground for a venue, and financial disagreements with Mayweather’s camp as reasons for putting the highly anticipated showdown on ice.

Friday’s news follows claims earlier this week that Mayweather’s planned exhibition in Greece had been canceled by promoters CSI, who sued claiming they already paid the undefeated boxer millions for the rights to the rematch with Pacquiao, as well as an exhibition bout against former heavyweight title holder Mike Tyson.

Mayweather has, and Pacquiao has been entangled in public disagreements for weeks over his post, which many took to mean he was backing out, announcing a proposed rematch with their long-time adversary. September is for an exhibition match, a statement that was denied by Pacquiao and his team of representatives.

As things stand, representatives for Pacquiao believe early 2027 would be the soonest they could look at having the rematch if there are issues on Mayweather’s side resolved.

Pacquiao is interested in May 17 th and is willing to entertain re-negotiating in early 2027 if necessary, while his team hinted that he would be receptive to taking the exhibition against Tyson if CSI’s dispute with Mayweather’s camp reach a resolution.

Mayweather concluded his professional boxing career in 2017, retiring as one of sport’s elite without a single loss, at 50-0.
