The Red Devils are said to have struck terms with rivals Chelsea over the purchase of young Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos for a fee of 56 million up front plus a 2.4 million due to add-ons.
Chelsea are also believed to have put in a request for a 10 per cent sell-on clause, which will now allow Santos to undertake a medical at Old Trafford, with personal terms also agreed upon.
The purchase comes after a series of midfield departures for United, which include the transfer of Casemiro to Saudi Arabia and concerns over Manuel Ugarte, who has been confirmed injured with an ACL tear.

the Brazillian was brought to the Stamford Bridge club for 17 million in January of 2022 and contributed three goals and five assists across his 47 appearances for Chelsea.
Santos only made 12 starts in the Premier League from his almost half-century outings with the club before being called up to the Brazilian national side, but was eventually overlooked for the World Cup.
